Bulk editing gives large-scale control to AdWords PPC campaigns

Digital marketing agencies had reason to rejoice this week as Google unveiled bulk editing tools to make AdWords PPC campaigns easier to manage.

The tools allow large-scale changes to be made across entire accounts – for example, a global 5% increase in maximum cost per click bids.

Websites that have moved to a different URL can also benefit from the ability to globally update visible and destination URLs associated with an AdWords account.

In all, a Google Inside AdWords blog post lists six bulk edits that may be made to keywords, four ad edits, three changes that can be made to ad groups and three campaign modifications.

“You’ll be able to preview changes before you apply them,” writes AdWords product manager Prashant Baheti.

“If you’re making a lot of changes, they’ll run in the background.”

This means, for instance, that you can log out or navigate around your account while large numbers of changes are being made, with a progress bar that will tell you when the bulk action is complete.

One example given in the post shows how the text ‘road bike’ can be altered to read ‘commuter bike’ in over 25,000 ads at once.

Bulk editing has clear applications for digital marketing agencies handling your PPC activities – but with the ability to make global changes to your account with a single click, you might want to leave this tool in the hands of the professionals.
